LAHORE: The Punjab government has finalised the legislative framework for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore.
The Punjab cabinet approved “Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Act 2024”, on Thursday and the bill would be presented in the Punjab Assembly, paving the way for a Rs77 billion state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility.
The Act provides for formation of a board of governors to oversee the administrative and operational affairs of the institution. The Punjab chief minister would serve as the patron-in-chief of the board, and its members would include the secretary of Specialized Health, secretary of Finance, secretary of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, secretary of Planning and Development, and the dean of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research.
In addition, seven prominent individuals from the private sector, including at least one woman from civil society, will be appointed as members.
