ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) Thursday nominated two district and sessions judges and 10 lawyers for their appointment as additional judges of the Sindh High Court. The commission met here at the Supreme Court with Chief Justice of Pakistan in the chair to consider the appointment of additional judges.
The commission, by majority of its total membership, nominated District and Sessions Judge (DSJ) Ms Tasneem Sultana and DSJ Khalid Hussain Shahani for their appointment as additional judges. The commission also nominated 10 advocates of Supreme Court for appointment as additional judges. They are Mina Muhammad Shah, Abdul Hameed Bhurgri, Ali Haider, Jan Ali Junejo, Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Jaffer Raza, Muhammad Qasim Ali Hadi, Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Riazat Ali Sahar and Syed Fiazul Hassan Shah.
The commission, also by majority, extended the term of judges of the Constitutional Bench of High Court of Sindh to six months.
Meanwhile, to uphold transparency and meritocracy in appointments, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has constituted committees, comprising senior judges and the Attorney General for Pakistan, to oversee the selection for key appointments, including secretaries of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, Judicial Commission of Pakistan and Supreme Judicial Council. The committee for the selection of secretary of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan is chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprises Mrs Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Shahid Waheed to interview the candidates nominated by the chief secretaries of the provinces.
Similarly, the committee for selection of the secretary of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan consists of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and the Attorney General for Pakistan.
Similarly, for the secretary of the Supreme Judicial Council, the committee comprises Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar and the Attorney General for Pakistan.
These committees will interview candidates, including serving and retired District and Sessions Judges, nominated by the chief justices of the five High Courts and Chief Secretaries of the provinces, says a press release issued here on Thursday.
