SAI announces protests against Indus canals project

HYDERABAD: A meeting of the Sindh Abadgar Ittehad (SAI) general body was hosted in Sheikh Bhirkiyo by founding member Haji Khan Muhammad Kamboh, and it decided that SAI members and growers would hold protests in Larkana and Sukkur on February 13 against the federal government’s plan to build six canals on the Indus River.

A large number of members and growers participated in the meeting, which was also attended by SAI Central President Nawab Zubair Ahmad Talpur, General Secretary Muhammad Anwar Kamboh, Mir Zafarullah Talpur, Javed Riar, Saifullah Gul, Abdul Rahim Dars, Abdul Razzaq Abrijo, Haji Khan Muhammad Kamboh, Pir Ashfaq Jan Sarhandi, and Abdul Haq Zanwar.

The SAI General Body election was also held in the session, and all members unanimously retained the previous executive committee. In the meeting, the movement against six canals planned on the Indus River was discussed, and protests were announced in Larkana on January 23 and Sukkur on February 13. A day before, the caravan will leave, which will join the Sukkur protest after the night stay in Gambat City of Khairpur District. The SAI said it stands firmly with its movement against the canals and will continue to fight peacefully and no bargaining will be acceptable.
