PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday extended the protective bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and lawmakers and issued fresh notices to the federal government and other relevant authorities provide details of the cases registered against them.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah heard the petition filed by PTI leaders and lawmakers Asad Qaiser, Shehram Tarakai, Shehryar Afridi, Dawar Kundi, Iqbal Afridi, provincial ministers Faisal Khan Tarakai, Aftab Alam, Faisal Javed, Sohail Afridi, Nadia Khattak and Malik Shahab advocate.
Lawyers Alam Khan Adinzai and Moazam Butt appeared for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Sanaullah and Dawlat Khan appeared for the federal government.The petitioners’ lawyers informed the court that following the protest on November 24, their clients had been named in cases registered at various police stations in Punjab and Islamabad.
They argued that they wished to appear in the relevant courts, so they requested the details of the cases filed against them. The court extended the protective bail of Asad Qaiser, Shehram Tarakai, Shehryar Afridi, and Faisal Tarakai.
The deputy attorney general told the bench that they had already submitted the report regarding Asad Qaiser’s cases, which had been resolved previously. The petitioners’ lawyer responded that they had filed the petition after November 24 and were requesting details of the cases registered after that date.
The DAG said that there was one FIR against Asad Qaiser, and in Shehram Tarakai’s case, the report had not been received yet but would be submitted soon. In Faisal Khan Tarakai’s case, the report had been received, and an FIR had been registered in Islamabad.
The National Accountability Bureau prosecutor informed the court that there was no inquiry against Faisal Tarakai. The petitioners’ lawyer then requested a report from the provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment.
Justice Syed Arshad Ali remarked, “Your government is here; get the report from anti-corruption. What kind of government do you have?”The DAG pleaded that the reports were still pending in the cases of Shehryar Afridi, Shehram Tarakai, and Dawar Kundi, and they would be submitted soon. The court, while ordering the submission of reports regarding the cases of Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Shehram Tarakai, Aftab Alam, Faisal Tarakai and Dawar Kundi adjourned the hearing.
