HANGU: The people have launched repair work on the Hangu -Kurram highway on a self-help basis after the authorities concerned did heed to their repeated demands.
“The work is progressing swiftly with the assistance of the local public and the Qaumi Committee. Due to government neglect and the deteriorating condition of the road, the local community has taken matters into their own hands,” said a local community activist.
He said the road had been in a state of disrepair for the past 15 years, with no efforts from the authorities to address the issue.Meanwhile, an important meeting was held at the residence of former MPA Attiqur Rehman, where several leaders spoke out about the ongoing road repairs.
The speakers included Hafiz Abdul Hadi, Mufti Mohammad Imran, Haji Atiq-ur-Rehman and others. They expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to address the issue despite claims made over the years.
“It is a matter of great concern that despite government promises, this road has not been repaired for 15 years. In this situation, the people of Hangu have started the repair work on their own,” Attiqur Rehman. The first phase of the repair work has already been completed, and the second phase, which includes laying the asphalt, is set to begin soon.
The leaders said that this was the issue of the whole region and the local community had initiated a fundraising campaign to build the road in the face of government’s inaction. The speakers also expressed their determination to resolve other pressing issues in the region, such as gas, electricity, and healthcare, and vowed to continue their efforts with
public support at the national level.
