There seems to be a lot of ‘good news’ going around these days. Around two weeks ago, the finance minister reportedly announced that the government would abolish 150,000 vacant posts. This week, there was the news that the government would cut the power tariff for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 44 per cent. This induced in me a feeling of jubilation and I decided to sell my petrol run car and buy an electric car.
Sadly, I did not realise that the cost of a normal electric car is in the crores. I could not understand for whose benefit these charging stations are being installed and who is advising our higher authorities to undertake such ventures because those who can afford electric cars do not really need cheap electricity. At least, not as much as the poor.
