ISLAMABAD: A child from Thatta, Sindh, has become the 73rd victim of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in Pakistan in 2024, marking the district’s first reported case last year.
The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the case on Thursday, stating that the disease’s onset occurred on December 10, 2024. The affected child was a baby girl of 15 months.
This new case brings Sindh’s total polio cases for 2024 to 22, contributing to the nationwide tally of 73.
