ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday suspended the membership of 139 lawmakers of the Senate, National Assembly and four provincial legislatures who did not submit their annual returns details for the year 2023-24 to the electoral body.
Memberships of two members of the Senate, 16 of the National Assembly, 68 of the Punjab Assembly, 33 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 15 lawmakers of the Sindh Assembly and five of Balochistan legislature have been suspended. The suspended lawmakers have been barred from attending the respective legislature’s proceedings.
Their suspension would remain in place till they comply with the legal requirement. The suspended lawmakers include senators Abdul Qadoos and Muhammad Qasim, MNAs Tahir Iqbal, Syed Ali Gilani, Mudassir Sehar Kamran and Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who has resigned as an MNA a few months back.
