District Courts Islamabad decide record number of cases

Islamabad: For the first time in history, the district courts of the federal capital Islamabad disposed of a record 119,000 cases during the year 2024. While 116,377 cases were filed.

According to the report, the maximum number of 78,582 cases were filed in Session Division West and under the special supervision of District and Sessions Judge West Muhammad Azam Khan, 78,983 cases were decided throughout the year. The number of which is 401 more than the cases filed. Thus, the number of pending cases in District Courts West Islamabad on January 1, 2025 has reduced to 29,111.

On the other hand, in Session Division East, 37,795 new cases were filed in 2024 and 40,168 cases were decided. In this way, under the supervision of District and Sessions Judge East Muhammad Yar Gondal, more than 2,373 cases were disposed of during the year 2024.

Judicial sources said that the number of judges in Islamabad Session Division West is 37 and the number of judges in Session Division East is 30. A total of more than 15 judges’ seats are vacant in both the East and West divisions.

With which Pakistanis sitting abroad can get information about their cases in subordinate courts of Islamabad with just one click.Lawyers and petitioners have breathed a sigh of relief at the launch of the District Courts Islamabad website and have welcomed the move.

Sources said that to ensure speedy delivery of justice to the people, the Session Judges of District Courts Islamabad East and West also evaluate the performance of additional and civil judges every month.Sources say that heavy fines have also been imposed during the year 2024 to discourage habitual applicants.
