ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday made a telephone call to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanding his role in resolving the issue of registration of madaris in the provinces.

Fazl told the prime minister that legislation in provincial assemblies was also needed to make a law for registration of religious seminaries. Shehbaz promised that he would talk to the chief ministers on the matter.

The JUIF chief wanted the provincial governments to follow the pattern of federal government which facilitated the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024 by two Houses of Parliament. It has now become a law through a gazette notification.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Parliamentary Leader in the Senate Irfan Siddiqui met Maulana Fazl at his residence and enquired about his health.

They also discussed the political situation in the country. No official statement regarding the meeting was received from either side.
