This letter refers to the news report ‘Imran Khan wants to regain power with US support: Khawaja Asif’ (December 22, 2024). When the PTI was thrown out of power in a seemingly democratic manner, we were told by Imran Khan that it was a mere cipher from the US which triggered his party’s downfall. Now, the present government is telling us the same PTI is courting US support to help it get back into power.
It seems that Pakistani leaders are obsessed with the US in one way or another. This trend has been evident ever since I was in school. We need a paradigm shift and to come out of this fixation with the US, which does not seem to be getting us anywhere. The US has its own problems to deal with and Pakistan has been surviving without much US support (at least direct support) since the pull-out from Afghanistan anyways. Stop looking at the US for all the problems or panaceas.
