In an unexpected move, the Sindh government on Wednesday ordered transferring the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) director general without providing a reason. A relevant notification was issued by the services, general administration & coordination department (SGA&CD).

The notification stated that SFA DG Muzamil Hussain Halepoto, an officer of PAS (BS-19), has been transferred with immediate effect and directed to report to the SGA&CD. He has been replaced by Food Secretary and Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees CEO Khalid Mehmood Shaikh, an officer of ex-PCS (BS-20), as a stop-gap arrangement until the posting of a regular SFA DG.

Officials said no reason has been provided behind Halepoto’s transfer as SFA DG within four months of his posting. Some circles claimed the transfer was due to his continuous operation against the sellers of loose oil and hazardous milk.

They said Halepoto has imposed fines of Rs890 million and recovered it during his operation. Before his posting as the SFA DG, Rs160 million in fines was recovered between 2023 and 2024, they added.
