Retired PIA employees have received a raise in their pension only once since 2009. The airline used to give 32 percent of the total salary as pension to its employees. However, since 2003, pensions have been calculated on basic pay. This is not fair. PIA pensioners have been demanding that either the airline give them 50 percent pension on their basic pay or calculate the 32 percent pension on total (gross) income.
Similarly, the payment of commuted amount and Matured Group Insurance should be given at the time of an employee’s retirement. Also, the PIA management should increase the pension of retired employees as per its circular number 21/2003 of July 31, 2003.
