Organisations and people managing buildings that rely on ventilation systems based on fresh air, especially in cities like Lahore, are facing a terrible trade-off during the current smog season. It is the choice between suffocation by cutting off outside air and toxic smog by letting in outside air. The third option, air-purification, is often not considered due to associated direct costs. But smog is no longer a temporary problem. Lahore continues to suffer under the weight of toxicity and its inhabitants continue to be exposed to health risks. We need to take urgent and serious short-term and long-term actions.
