LAHORE: Following Pakistan’s historic ODI series win over Australia, captain Mohammad Rizwan has set an ambitious vision for the future, declaring that the team’s next target is to clinch the Champions Trophy.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video capturing the celebratory mood in the dressing room, where Rizwan and coaches Jason Gillespie and Azhar Mehmood commended the team’s exceptional performance.
“Our target is to win the Champions Trophy,” Rizwan said. “If there is an opportunity in the Olympics, I will make the Olympics a goal.” In the post-series celebration, Gillespie praised the team for their consistency and unity, emphasising that their exceptional bowling was a key factor in securing the series. “The team performed well in all areas, especially in bowling,” Gillespie noted, commending the players for their unwavering commitment to victory.
Azhar echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the team’s resilience and cohesion. “The entire team played as one and showed great determination,” he said. As the squad now shifts its attention to the upcoming T20 series, Rizwan set a high goal: “Our target is to whitewash Australia.”
He emphasised his commitment to enhancing each player’s performance, engaging individually with them to discuss improvement strategies. Expressing pride in his team’s journey, Rizwan noted that Pakistan’s victory had exceeded expectations. “No one expected us to play so well,” he said.
