Amendment to Assembly Rules of Procedure allows a member to speak on a point of order during assembly proceedings
LAHORE: The Punjab Agricultural Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024 will be presented in the assembly today (Monday) for approval to impose the “super tax” on big landowners in the province.
According to the document, Provincial Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman will present the bill in the assembly. Without referring the bill to any committee of the House, finance minister will request the speaker to suspend rules 93, 94 and 95 of Rules of Procedure of Punjab Assembly, 1997 under Rule 234 for approval of the bill. The speaker can exercise the powers provided by the law in this respect.
After an amendment to Punjab Assembly Rules of Procedure 1997 last month, no member of the assembly is allowed to make a point of order during the presentation of a bill in the House.
The amendment to the Assembly Rules of Procedure allows a member to speak on a point of order during the assembly proceedings, but no point of order is allowed during the passage of any bill.
