ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has announced the successful repair of SMW4 submarine cable defect, restoring internet services nationwide.
The PTA reported that the internet services were restored after a 4-month outage caused by defects in SMW4 (June) and AAE1 (August) submarine cables.
The restoration removed the 1750 Gbps shortfall. This follows the addition of the Pace cable in 2023, which enhanced capacity. Further expansions are planned, with three new cables from Transworld International (2) and PTCL (1) set to join the system within the next two years.
