ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said body of Mullah Mansour has been handed over to his family, days after the fugitive leader of the Afghan Taliban was eliminated in a US drone strike in Balochistan.

“Family of Taliban leader took his body to other side of the border,” he told a meeting that he was chairing.

“How could we have identified body of Mullah Mansour before DNA test which requires time ,” he said, in response to criticism that government has faced for failing to confirm death of Taliban chief despite US officials and a spokesman for Islamic movement confirmed that Mansour was killed in the drone attack inside Pakistan.

He further said all those who verified travel documents and identity card of Mullah Mansor have been arrested. “Man who issued ID card to Mullah Mansour in 2002 has also been taken into custody,” he said.

Police on Sunday registered a case against US officials for the drone attack on the complaint of brother of a taxi driver who was driving Mullah Mansour and perished in the missile attack along with the militant commander.

Pakistan termed the US drone strike as an attack on its sovereignty and summoned US envoy in Islamabad to lodge a protest.
