The World Culture Festival Karachi, being hosted by the Arts Council of Pakistan, is unfolding with great energy and enthusiasm, offering a vibrant celebration of global arts and culture. On the 21st day of the festival, a theatre performance titled ‘The 39 Steps’ was the highlight of the evening.
Directed and adapted by Mazhar Suleman Noorani and Syed Muntazir, with Norez Lashari serving as the assistant director, the play was a resounding success. The cast, featuring Ahmer Hussain, Hammad Khan, Sarah Taqi, Zain Qureshi, and Zohair Zubair, delivered stellar performances that kept the audience engaged throughout the show.
The play was presented in both Urdu and English, offering accessibility to a wide range of viewers. “The 39 Steps” follows the story of Mirza, who is falsely accused of a crime and becomes entangled in the conspiracy of a secret organization. As he travels across the country to prove his innocence, he encounters a series of comedic characters, hidden plots, and constant twists.
This fast-paced, suspenseful narrative takes the audience on an exhilarating journey as Mirza strives to uncover the truth. The play received overwhelming applause from the large audience in attendance.
The World Culture Festival Karachi will continue until November 2. A day earlier on Tuesday, a play written and directed by Shahnawaz Bhatti titled ‘Chaturaee’ was staged at the ACP under the World Culture Festival. The play was a comedy but it dealt with the serious theme of polygamy and injustices arising out of it in a feudal household. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the bickering between two wives of a feudal lord in the play.
Today (Thursday), the ACP offers a play in Sindhi language titled Salgirah. The director of the play is Paras Masroor who is an accomplished television and theatre artiste. The play is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
