Militant menace

This letter refers to the news report 'Balochistan plunges deeper into militancy vortex' (August 27, 2024). Balochistan has been in almost continuous turmoil since the military operation against Nawab Akbar Bugti. However, last week’s terror attacks in the province appear to have taken tensions to a new height, with people and security forces killed and infrastructure destroyed.

The people of Balochistan have faced many losses due to terrorism and even though many military operations have been launched to solve this problem, the province only seems to be getting more unstable. No matter how effective the operation launched, this insurgency will not stop until we have safe borders and are able to cut off the support the terrorists receive from external actors.

The killings of 23 people in Balochistan’s Musakhail district highlights the ongoing tensions within the country, which is already facing multiple other problems. This is not the first time such ethnic-based violence has occurred in Pakistan. It is the need of the hour to take strict notice of this problem because, if not properly dealt with, this violence can cause widespread instability.

One more thing to consider is how encouraging it will be for those who seek to destabilize our country to see Pakistanis at each other’s throats. We must solve this problem before things reach this stage.
