ISLAMABAD: In a strategic reshuffle, the federal cabinet has unveiled a new board for the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).

The reconstituted board will be headed by Dr Fiaz Ahmed Chaudhry, who has been appointed Chairman, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) notified. The new board will feature Sheikh Imran ul Haq and Ermeena Asad Malik as independent directors. Existing board members Naveed Sharif, Dr Naveed Arshad and Rehman Ali Otho will continue their roles. These three were earlier notified on June 15, 2023.

In a move aimed at streamlining governance, the cabinet has reduced the number of ex-officio directors from five to four. Resultantly, the Additional Secretary-I of the Power Division, a member of the Energy Planning Commission, Managing Director of Private Power Infrastructure Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Power Purchasing Agency, will serve as ex-officio directors.

Additionally, the Managing Director of NTDC will also be integrated into the board and will serve as an executive director. The cabinet’s decision on Aug 19 marks a significant governance shift at the NTDC, with the new board set to oversee the company for the next three years.
