This letter refers to the news report ‘Sisi, Biden agree Israel and Hamas need to show flexibility in Gaza talks’ (August 24, 2024). The fact is that Joe Biden has been blaming only Hamas for the absence of a ceasefire. And that is understandable because, with his term ending in a few months, concentrating on appeasing Israelis to earn a massive retirement package from pro-Israel lobbies is important to him. That is why, while feigning for a ceasefire, he keeps approving military aid packages for Israel. This is hardly an inducement towards ceasefire. Moreover, the real solution is not the ceasefire but the establishment of a Palestinian state. If the US president and all his top officials cannot even force Israeli forces to vacate Palestinian land, they will be unable to make any progress towards peace.
