This letter refers to the editorial ‘The impending clash’ (August 11, 2024). It is an undeniable fact that all elected governments have a track record of criticising judicial decisions that go against them. Over the years, the ‘democracy’ slogan has been used as a tool to come to power and then behave like a dictator. The PDM's 15 months in power mainly revolved around legislation to protect their wrong doings with few members present at most sessions of parliament.
Any legislation or law enacted to protect or favour a few individuals can be struck down by the apex court. The big gaps created due to bad governance can only be filled by the SC. The government has to display magnanimity in accepting verdicts and avoid confrontation.
