ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear next week the appeal of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenging the Lahore High Court’s order appointing eight election tribunals in Punjab to address election disputes from the February 8 general elections.
A five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, will resume hearing the appeal on August 19. The other members of the bench include Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi.
Previously, on July 4, the Supreme Court had suspended the Lahore High Court’s judgment and its notification regarding the appointment of eight election tribunals in Punjab. This suspension was in effect until the completion of consultations between the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and ECP.
