Mulla Mansour is likely killed in drone hit, claims US official

WASHINGTON: The US military carried out an air strike on Saturday targeting Afghan Taliban leader Mulla Akhtar Mansour in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region, the Pentagon said.

“We are still assessing the results of the strike and will provide more information as it becomes available,’’ Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement.

Later an official said President Obama authorised the strike and the Taliban Leader Mulla Mansour is likely to killed along with another combatant in the drone attack.
