Another horrific crime has emerged from Sindh, this time from Naushahro Feroz, a district in the province. Sobia Batool Shah legs were hacked with axes by her father and uncles as punishment for seeking a divorce from her abusive husband. Sobia had been suffering in an abusive marriage, with her husband neglecting to provide for her and their two children. Despite repeatedly informing her parents of her suffering, they dismissed her grievances and accused her of bringing dishonor to the family by seeking a divorce.

This horrific act has left Sobia with potentially lifelong disabilities, and she may never be able to walk again. This incident highlights the deep-rooted patriarchal attitudes and violence against women in Pakistan, where seeking a divorce is often seen as a disgraceful act. The battle to eradicate crimes against women is a long one, and it cannot be won unless we start fighting it with determination.
