When will this time of misery and discomfort end for the people of Pakistan? Is there a path forward or are we doomed to repeat our troubled history? This country has endured enough and desperately needs healing now. Sadly, the self-serving political elites are in no mood to allow it to embark on the path to progress, further damaging its already derailed condition through undemocratic means and coercion. Any attempt to ban the PTI will severely harm the country’s democratic foundation. The PML-N-led coalition government appears frustrated by its mediocre performance and determined to eliminate Imran Khan’s PTI at any cost.
Such coercive tactics have never succeeded in Pakistan and likely never will. The current government fails to realize that the PTI has deeply-rooted popular support and these desperate measures will only backfire. A party only fails when it loses the people’s support and the PTI has consistently had strong backing from the people and can only be defeated through political means. We must end this political unrest and take this moment to reflect on our past, learn from it, and embark on a fresh path towards progress.
