I really enjoy reading your sections on etymology. This actually makes us realize that language is something which develops with time, adapts itself, and gets influenced by the culture and society. It is seriously great to learn about the language we use. I really appreciate the efforts of the writer who researches and digs down into the past to trace the development of words in the language. I wish etymology section would always be there in your mag.

Hello Editor,

I only thought west was so concerned about the climate change that is taking place in the world, but it is great to see through your articles that we are also ready to accept that climate change is real and Elaj trust and AIESEC have come forward to make people aware of this environmental challenge. Let’s hope more will be done to prevent the disastrous effects of climate change in the future.

Hi Eddy,

The first thing I read whenever I pick up the US mag is “Comic Relief”. The jokes and comic strips are nicely selected to make the readers chuckle. Thanks a lot for this relief!

Cheating as a curse

Salam Editor,

Cheating is one of the major problems in our country and slowly and gradually it is becoming trendy for the students of all the levels. Students are being deprived of proper education as no efforts are being made to remove the curse of cheating. As our educational system demands rote learning, students are tempted to carry prepared answers and solutions to the examination hall; they use them and are able to get through the exam. But this doesn’t help them in long term. If the culture of cheating thrives in our country, our country will cripple down as education is the only savior of our nation. I request the government, teachers, students and all the concerned people to work together to curb the problem of cheating.

Education:

the only solution

Dear Editor,

Education is the only weapon through which we can fight all the wars. At this point in time, Pakistan is currently facing several problems which could only be solved through education. Still the statistics show that Pakistan’s majority is illiterate, which is quite alarming for us as we now stand in the 21st century. Even the poor countries, like, Bangladesh have somehow managed to improve their conditions through their educational advancement, but unfortunately Pakistan hasn’t shown much progress. Until and unless, we invest all our energies in education, we will not be able to prevent the stagnation of our society.

Narrated by Ibn Umar (R.A)

When the Muslims arrived at Medina, they used to assemble for the prayer, and used to guess the time for it. During those days, the practice of Adhan for the prayers had not been introduced yet. Once they discussed this problem regarding the call for prayer. Some people suggested the use of a bell like the Christians, others proposed a trumpet like the horn used by the Jews, but Umar was the first to suggest that a man should call (the people) for the prayer; so Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) ordered Bilal to get up and pronounce the Adhan for prayers.
