This refers to the letter 'Luxury train' (July 14, 2024) by Syed Hussein El–Edroos. It surprises me that no one in Pakistan, including the parliamentarians, took notice of the expensive and flawed plan of running a glass train between Rawalpindi and Murree. If implemented, I think it would be extremely hazardous for the environment and add to the destruction already caused to the natural beauty of Murree by unplanned constructions.
The influx of more tourists would also be problematic. The project might also give rise to more landslides due to soil erosion caused by laying railway tracks in the mountainous area. Above all, our scarce resources should be diverted to more pressing needs such as health and education and poverty alleviation rather than fanciful projects.
