This refers to the letter ‘Terror surge’ (July 11, 2024) by Marvi Sahito. It is true that Pakistan and Pakistanis are victims of terrorism and it is also true that the country’s law-enforcement agencies can defeat this menace. They have demonstrated this capability several times before, however, what we need is to maintain peace after operations are over.
Once we eliminate most terror outfits, we need cooperative efforts to curtail the reemergence of these outfits. The country should also set up an apparatus along the lines of the US Department of Homeland Security. They have immense power to investigate and pre-empt any suspicious terror threat or even perceived threat to national security.
