Pakistan has recorded five cases of polio this year, mostly from Balochistan. Socio-cultural barriers, militant opposition, misinformation and misconceptions and lack of access to remote areas are among the main factors which contribute to polio cases.
To address this issue, policymakers should prioritize a multi-faceted approach that involves strengthening surveillance, enhancing vaccine coverage and addressing socio-cultural barriers, especially in those areas where these cases are reported.
