ISLAMABAD: As reports of a rift between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari have been appearing in the media, the PPP on Tuesday rejected these speculations saying that the current security environment in Pakistan was difficult for Bilawal to openly operate, so for a while he will be working with senior party leadership on policy issues and re-organisation of the party.
The PPP spokesman came out with an official statement of Bilawal Zardari, quelling speculations of political differences with his father Asif Ali Zardari, saying that he will be in political frontline when the right time comes. “There are no differences between myself and my father. I am committed to the party’s ideals and goals and will work with him to reinvigorate the party and it’s message for a changing Pakistan. I will be on the party’s political frontline when the time is right,” the PPP spokesperson quoted Chairman Bilawal as saying after a meeting between Bilawal and Asif Zardari.
“The meeting in Dubai on Tuesday between Bilawal and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari should quell speculations in a section of the media about Bilawal being sidelined,” he said. The spokesperson said the chairman and co-chairman have decided that Bilawal will be working with the overseas Pakistanis chapter of the party and will reach out to the party’s leadership in Pakistan for consultation from time to time.
