Pakistan win group matches in Asian Squash

KARACHI: Pakistan won group matches in the Asian Team Squash Championships in Dalian, China, on Wednesday.


In the first group match, third seeds Pakistan defeated sixth seeds Korea 2-1 as Nasir Iqbal defeated Jeongming Ryu 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9 in 39 minutes.

Noor Zaman beat Jooyoung NA 11-7, 12-10, 11-3 in 30 minutes but Asim Khan lost to Minwoo Lee 12-10, 11-4, 9-11, 3-11, 3-11 in 68 minutes.

In the second group match, Pakistan thrashed 12th seed Chinese Taipei 3-0 as Nasir beat Wei Chih Yu 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 in 17 minutes.

Asim smashed Pan Shao Yu 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 in 18 minutes and Noor Zaman defeated Lin Yu Wei 11-4, 11-7, 11-3 in 17 minutes.

Now, Pakistan will play against 13th seed China on Thursday (today). Pakistan is in Pool C along with Korea, China Taipei, and China.

Besides Pakistan, the teams of Malaysia, Iran, Iraq, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Korea, Chinese Taipei, China, India, Japan, Kuwait, and Mongolia are participating in this event.
