PESHAWAR: A special anti-terrorism court on Tuesday framed charges against 115 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, including serving provincial legislators and former ministers for the May 9 violence of last year.

Judge Iqbal Khan indicted the PTI members who were charged with ransacking public and private properties during the protests they staged to register anger at the arrest of the party founder Imran Khan.

He summoned the prosecution witnesses on the next hearing into the case which was fixed for June 26.

When the court started hearing into the case, the accused named in the case appeared before the judge.

Among the accused were former ministers Taimur Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, present lawmakers, MNA Asif Khan, MNA Sher Ali Arbab , MPA Fazal Elahi, erstwhile nazim of Peshawar, Asim Khan, and others.

It was submitted to the court that the accused damaged the VIP Gate of the Balahisar Fort and different banks during the protests.

The court was told that a case was registered against them at the Khan Raziq Shaheed Police Station.

It was added that a challan (charge sheet) had been submitted to the court after completing the investigation and hence the accused had been put on trial. The accused, however, denied the charges levelled against them.
