Youm-e-takbeer was observed this past Tuesday (May 28, 2024), with the nation observing the 26th anniversary of its successful nuclear tests. I would like to congratulate all those who helped Pakistan show its prowess in the nuclear field.

That being said, a public holiday is perhaps not the best way to mark this historic occasion. Most people spent half the day sleeping and the other half binge-watching TV. This is not exactly an ideal way to keep our kids informed about historic events.

This past Tuesday (May 28), Youm-e-Takbeer, marked the date on which Pakistan became a nuclear power. This achievement required consistency, dedication and enthusiasm. We should organize seminars and sessions to convey the importance of such historic dates to our students and not simply hold public holidays.
