Last week witnessed the return of Nawaz Sharif as president of the PML-N, replacing his younger brother Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In a democracy change is of the essence, just like dissent. It is collective wisdom that must prevail in political parties, not dictates by individuals. Induction of fresh blood reinvigorates a political party and this change enables the party to keep in touch with the needs of the electorate and the problems they face.
A lot has changed since the 90s and it is healthy for politicians to resign from key posts, like party president, at the peak of their popularity. There is no space for obstinacy and arrogance in politics.
