The Sindh Assembly on Friday passed the Registration (Sindh Amendment) Ordinance 2024 to amend the land registration law for enabling the provincial revenue authorities to maintain property record electronically.
The House adopted the amendment law to pass an ordinance already promulgated in the province for introducing an electronic land registration system. A special committee of the assembly presented in the House its report on the amendment law after properly evaluating its contents. The report said that the e-registration system would be helpful in digitising land and property records in the province to protect them from tampering and other fraudulent activities to deprive rightful landowners of their legitimate real estate possessions.
The e-registration system would also facilitate the property owners, prospective buyers and sellers of land to easily access real estate records maintained by the provincial revenue authorities. The e-registration would provide necessary transition from manual property records to the digital archiving of land information by the government.
Meanwhile, journalists covering the proceedings of the session resorted to vocal protests to mourn the death of Nasrullah Gadani, injured journalist from Mirpur Mathelo town in Sindh who succumbed to his bullet injuries at a hospital in Karachi on Friday.
The slain journalist was targeted by unidentified armed persons in his native town a few days back. Initially, he was shifted to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan for treatment. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Sharjeel Inam Memon assured the protesting media persons that the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) fully believed in freedom of expression and it had not ever made any attempt to put any restriction on the free press.
He recalled that the late former prime minister and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto being a firm believer in the democratic right of freedom of expression had played an important role in ensuring that the media remained free in the country.
He recalled that the Sindh government had arranged an air ambulance to shift the injured journalist from Rahim Yar Khan to Karachi to ensure that he received the best treatment services. He said the Sindh government had also been bearing the entire treatment cost of the injured journalist.
Memon assured the journalists that the Sindh government would bring to justice the culprits behind the attack on Gadani. Meanwhile, Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani told the legislature that over 24,000 personnel of the civic agencies would perform special duties to ensure waste disposal and cleanliness in Karachi in the shortest possible time on the occasion of Eidul Azha.
Responding to a call-attention notice, the local government minister said that 6,802 vehicles would be used in the waste disposal operation on the occasion of Eidul Azha in the city. He added that there would be 91 waste collection points while 17 designated spots would be used to properly dispose of offal of the sacrificial animals in the city.
