CDA increases per day water supply by six million gallons

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to provide additional six million gallons per day (MGDs) of water for residents of Islamabad to improve water supply amid ongoing heat wave.

CDA chairman issued these directives while chairing a meeting held to review situation of water supply in the federal capital. The meeting was attended by the senior officers of Water Supply Wing. The CDA chairman issue the direction to keeping in mind the needs of the citizens in summer an additional six MGD of water should be provided to the citizens daily from Simli Dam. Similarly, the duration of water supply should be increased in densely populated sectors and areas. CDA chairman issued the direction and further said that the leave of all the staff of the water supply wing should be cancelled. Similarly, the tanker service should also be kept on high alert round the clock and all the complaints of leakages in the pipelines should also be eliminated immediately. He further said that long-term solutions should be introduced to solve water problems. Instructions were also given for immediate work on Shahdara, Tarbela, Chiniot and Khanpur dams so that the water problem can be solved on a permanent basis.

He expressed his anger over the theft of 40 per cent water from Khanpur Dam to Sangjani Plant Canal. While giving a briefing, they were told that the control of the canal is under the authority of each province. Earlier, this was the responsibility of Wapda. CDA chairman while issuing instructions said that a proposal should be made and submitted in this regard so that a solution to this problem can be found by talking with Wapda and other organisations including.

He said that a proposal should be submitted within three days regarding the installation of solar system at water pumping stations so that the huge amount used for energy can be used in other development works of the city.
