Google, at its recent I/O developer conference, has announced a new feature for Android phones named "App Spotlight" which aims to increase user engagement by displaying the best content within the already installed apps, Tech Crunch reported.
This new feature will be integrated within the Android phones and will automatically generate a "carousel of content" based on the user's activity.
The carousel will include everything ranging from a news article to a product recommendation.
The "App Spotlight" will let users jump straight from the app into the specific section featuring the highlighted content. This will make it easy for users to navigate around the app, offering a smooth and efficient way to access engaging content.
Google has already signed agreements with over 35 major developers for the new feature, including, Spotify, Pinterest, Tumblr, TikTok and Shopify.
Furthermore, Google has emphasised that user privacy will be made top priority and the feature will not engage in anything beyond what’s already permitted within the installed apps.
In addition, users will have control over the feature and will be able to disable the App Spotlight entirely if they prefer a more traditional app launcher experience.
By introducing this feature, Google aims to enhance the user experience.
