Jeremy Renner returned to the set of Mayor of Kingstown one year after his terrifying snowplow accident that left him with multiple serious injuries.
In an interview with Los Angeles Times, the Hawkeye actor shared how he was treated like a child actor on set, starting with seeking permission from his to have him return to set.
Mayor of Kingstown co-creator Hugh Dillion asked his mother for permission. However, once on set, Renner’s filming schedule and everything along with that was adjusted also to help with his recovery.
“They go, ‘And action!’ And I was out,” he told the outlet. “We realised they worked me too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row. What I’m willing to do is everything, but what I’m able to do is a different thing.”
The producers then went on to modify the schedule to adjust Renner’s needs and so he can stretch and exercise on set, sometimes between takes.
Moreover, Renner remained in Pittsburgh throughout most of the four-month production so that he can avoid jetlag, as it is very hard on his body.
“They have to treat me like I’m a child actor,” Renner joked. “The mayor of Kingstown is now like a 14-year-old.”
Renner had 38 broken bones, a collapsed lung and significant chest trauma from the the snowmobile accident that occurred on January 1, 2023.
