ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly standing committees’ composition and formation is expected to be finalised before the upcoming budget session of the National Assembly.

The committees formation has turned into a Herculean task, as the two main parliamentary parties — PMLN and PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council — lack homework for their composition. Almost every member wants to be a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and other key standing committees like of power, interior and others.

Owing to the failure of the parliamentary parties to finalize the composition of committee, the National Assembly Friday passed a motion moved by the PPP’s Syed Naveed Qamar.

According to sources, now the things have been pushed for finalizing the composition and election of chairmanship of the standing committees the National Assembly ahead of the budget session.

Sources said the budget session of the National Assembly was earlier decided to be held on June 6 but now it would be summoned on June 5. Though early this month, the understanding reached among the parliamentary parties in the National Assembly on the composition and formation of the standing committees, the issue fell into disarray after the Election Commission suspended the legislators on reserved seats on the basis of the Supreme Court order. Sources said the PPP had presented tits list of the members and wanted that the other two other parties — PMLN and PTI backed SIC — should complete their homework so that the process could be completed and standing committee made functional.
