ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided not to de-notify the lawmakers elected on reserved seats, as the Supreme Court of Pakistan had only suspended its order and that of the Peshawar High Court.
It was learnt that the Law Wing has given its opinion to the Election Commission on the Supreme Court’s decision on the reserved seats, in which it has been said that the Supreme Court has not set aside the decision of the Election Commission and Peshawar High Court.
However, the apex court has suspended the decision of Election Commission as well as the Peshawar High Court and has not ordered their de-notification as such. The Election Commission briefly deliberated upon the recent apex court order and then sought the opinion of the authorities concerned in this connection. It is likely that the Election Commission may also take the opinion of the Law Ministry on this matter, after which a meeting is expected on Monday to review the suggestions of the Law Wing. “Until then, the Election Commission has decided not to de-notify members elected on the reserved seats,” sources said.
