The dacoits of the riverine area had to face tough times after their audacious criminal activity on the Sukkur-Multan Motorway some four months back resulting in the murder of the chieftain of a sub-clan of the Bugti tribe, Sardar Abdul Rehman.

The father of the deceased, Jalal Khan Bugti along with his tribal volunteers, reached the riverine area where the hideouts of the dacoits are present. Under the patronage extended by Rahim Yar Khan police, the aggrieved tribal volunteers used modern weapons and motor shells to attack the dacoits from the last bunkers of the operation against the bandits in the Ronti area of the riverine belt. Two tribal volunteers were also injured in the action.

Later on, the bereaved father and tribal volunteers agreed to return to their native area after intervention by senior authorities. According to the District Police Officer, Rahim Yar Khan, Rizwan Gondal, a few Bugti volunteers had reached the riverine area as they had been made to go back after two days.

Sources in the area said the armed clashes between the tribal volunteers and dacoits continued for two days. Afterwards, the bandits were ready to state under a solemn oath that they were not involved in the murder of the tribal chieftain.

The bandits were even ready to walk on a track of burning coals to prove their innocence. The tribal volunteers agreed to return from the riverine belt after they were persuaded by the top political figures in the area.

A senior official of the Ghokti Police said that the police force in Rahim Yar Khan had launched a targeted operation against the Sanu Sher gang of dacoits. Dacoits belonging to the Rajib Sher gang are alleged to have been involved in the killing of the tribal chieftain.
