LAHORE: A total of 6,401 cases were prosecuted by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in the last five years from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2023.
In a report released by the ACE under the Access to Information Act 2013, sentences were awarded in only 221 cases. According to the documents, information made public in the case of Mukhtar Ahmed Ali vs Director Legal ACE, 7,330 cases were registered by ACE from January 1, 2018 to December 2022. During this period, 19,970 inquiries were dropped while 3,914 cases closed due to lack of evidence.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment filed appeals against 58 sentences handed down by the courts from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2023. The appeals were filed by the Prosecutor General Punjab. Under the Right to Information Act, former Information Commissioner Punjab Mukhtar Ahmad Ali had sought information from ACE about the cases registered in four to five years after January 1, 2018.
