A man from Boise, Idaho, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for deliberately attempting to spread HIV to dozens of sexual partners, including teenage boys.
Alexander Louie is HIV-positive but he lied to his partners about his disease status, according to police investigators. He engaged in unprotected sex with the intent to infect others, putting numerous lives at risk, said the investigators.
According to prosecutors, the 34-year-old man's actions were predatory and intentional, with the goal of infecting others with the virus.
He was arrested after he initiated an online sexual conversation with an undercover detective from the Ada County Sheriff's office posing as a 15-year-old boy. The two planned to meet for sex. When Louie showed up for the meeting, police took him into custody.
Initially, he was accused of child enticement. However, later prosecutors filed multiple other charges, including transferring body fluids containing the HIV virus, against him.
During a hearing before announcing his sentence, Ada County District Judge Derrick O'Neill condemned Louie's actions. The judge said, "Your conduct would be the Webster's definition of a predator."
Louie will not be eligible for parole until he has served 16 years, according to the ruling.
He was an AIDS patients but was not receiving any medication.Louie confessed to having sex with 30 to 50 different men and boys, including a 16-year-old, prosecutors said.
