Inter Miami star Lionel Messi and Kansas City Chief’s Patrick Mahomes are probably the biggest athletes in the United States right now, Marca reported.

However, even stars can feel a little star-struck when they meet each other for the first time.

Star quarterback Mahomes recently appeared on the "Impaulsive" podcast hosted by Logan Paul where he shared what occurred when he saw the Argentine player at the Arrowhead Stadium.

He said: "I was nervous, I was very nervous to meet him. I didn't know what I was supposed to say. So I was walking down the hall and they're walking in a tight hallway. He's going to warm up, what am I supposed to say? I said: 'Have fun out there' and he had a goal and an assist so I feel like he had a great time, he had fun, it was all on me."

Mahomes is the co-owner of Major League Soccer team Sporting Kansas City, and they recently hosted the Inter Miami team.

The match was attended by 76,000 fans, the fourth largest in MLS history.

Later during the interview, Paul questioned Mahomes if Messi recognised him to which the quarterback replied: "If someone told him, I don't think he recognised me. He probably watched the Super Bowl when I had my helmet on, maybe I should wear my uniform next time then he'd know who I am."
