Following a thorough investigation by Baby Reindeer producer Clerkenwell Films, the writer and creator of the dark comedy-drama was eventually cleared of any wrongdoings after a romantic entanglement with Reece Lyons.

The investigation was triggered by Lyons’ post on X, formerly Twitter, in which she detailed her experience with Gadd. Though she did not explicitly mention Gadd or Baby Reindeer, Deadline claimed to identify his identity.

In a lengthy thread, Lyons, who auditioned for the role of Gadd’s ex-girlfriend Teri in the stalker drama, claimed Gadd "hurt" her by "conflating a work opportunity with a dating dynamic."

According to Lyons, Gadd and his friend approached her first in October 2021 after her performance in a bar of London’s Bush Theatre.

He began to share about his Netflix show and a potential casting for the ex-girlfriend role, to which she seemed interested and asked him to get in touch with her agent.

A week later, Gadd asked her out on a date. The duo then went on four dates between October and November 2021 before Gadd ended the relationship in December.

Regarding the audition, Lyon mentioned she submitted her self-tape for Teri to Nina Gold Casting in March 2022, three months after her breakup with Gadd.

In June 2022, Baby Reindeer producer Matthew Mulot asked Nina Gold Casting to inform Lyons about her unsuccessful attempt.

Following her rejection, she asked Gadd for his feedback, to which he told her it was "exceptional," but Netflix wanted a more established actress.

It is pertinent to note that although Clerkenwell Films concluded in favour of Gadd, Lyons’ was not interviewed to elaborate on her viewpoints.
