Bilawal picked Sardar Saleem Haider for post of Punjab governor and former NA deputy speaker Faisal Karim Kundi as PPP nominee for KP governor

ISLAMABAD/ PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has picked Sardar Saleem Haider for the post of Punjab governor and former National Assembly deputy speaker Faisal Karim Kundi as the PPP nominee for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor.

Bilawal announced the nomination of Sardar Saleem and Faisal Karim Kundi on the social media platform ‘X’.

He posted on ‘X’: “The Pakistan Peoples Party has nominated Faisal Karim Kundi as Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sardar Saleem Haider Khan as Governor Punjab. I am confident they will preform their duties with the dignity their new office demands. I wish them both the best of luck.”

The PPP chairman gave the news of appointing Saleem Haider as Punjab governor in a meeting of the PPP central Punjab leadership headed by former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf here at the Zardari House on Friday.

Sardar Saleem is currently PPP’s Rawalpindi Division chapter president. He has also served as minister of state for defence production and special assistant to PM on overseas Pakistanis.

While Faisal Karim Kundi is PPP’s central secretary information.

As per agreement between the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), the governors for Punjab and KP would be nominated by Bilawal-led party, the N-League would name Sindh and Balochistan governors.

Sources said that Bilawal has also nominated Rubina Khalid for the post of Benazir Income Support Programme chairperson.

The PPP’s nominee for Punjab is affiliated with the party since joining the national politics, and was elected to the Attock District Council in 1997.

Sardar Salim Haider is also a close relative of politician Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Separately, the ruling PMLN has decided to make its leader Jaffar Khan Mandokhail governor of Balochistan province.

Mandokhail, who is also president of Balochistan chapter of the PMLN, in a statement said that party supremo Nawaz Sharid had contacted him and informed him of the party’s decision.
