Star footballer Lionel Messi has been named "Player of the Month" for April 2024 for his performance playing for the Inter Miami, MLS Soccer reported.
The Argentina player scored six goals and four assists in the month of April, despite playing in onlu four matches.
Out of Inter Miami’s 12 goals scored in April, Messi contributed to 10 of them. His goals in the match against Nashville SC and New England Revolution led the team to victory.
Messi scored two goals in the match against Revs, and also set a new record by reaching 1,200 career assists.
Additionally, the La Pulga, also became the first player in the Major League Soccer (MLS) history to record multiple goal contributions in five consecutive games.
Messi’s presence in the United States has contributed to setting a new attendance record at the renowned Gillette stadium in Massachusetts.
Messi became the Player of the Month for the second time in the 2024 season. His Barcelona teammate, Luis Suarez, won the title two times, for the month of February and March.
Inter Miami will face off New York Red Bulls on Saturday in a battle of Eastern Conference heavyweights. The match will be played in Florida.
