KP to procure 300,000 tonnes of wheat from farmers

PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced plans to procure 300,000 metric tons of wheat from local farmers, with the procurement process scheduled to commence in May.

A meeting was convened on Monday to discuss the wheat purchase, chaired by Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary. Secretaries from the Food, Finance, and Information Departments, as well as commissioners and deputy commissioners, participated in the meeting via video link.

Transparency in the wheat procurement process, a key requirement of the province, was the main focus of the meeting. The government has set the wheat price at Rs3,900 per 40kg, allocating Rs29 billion for the purchase.

Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary stressed the importance of maintaining transparency and warned against any negligence in the procurement process. He emphasized the need for effective implementation of government policy to ensure a smooth process.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa director of food informed the meeting that wheat procurement would commence in May. The chief secretary directed close coordination between the Food Department and district administration to facilitate a seamless wheat purchase process. He also highlighted the importance of improved arrangements for storing and preserving the wheat.
